Rickie’s answer to social distancing was to share hope through song and the response has been incredible.
Band of Devotion!
The B-hood was birthed at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic protocols that stressed isolation and social distancing. This dynamic group of courageous artists continued through the tight restrictions to deliver weekly programs of inspirational music that live-streamed to thousands of people who leaned in week after week to feel some kind of connection during a time of quarantine and despair. Every week the themes of connection, gratitude and joy are planted along with ways to live healthier and more joyful lives.

In the fall of 2018 Rickie Byars completed her journey of many years at Agape Center/Beverly Hills and would soon be invited to share her gifts in spiritual communities across America, and in Los Angeles in Leimert Park/South Los Angeles. The New World Stage, Hot N Cool Cafe and the Third Church of Religious Science welcomed the talents of this beloved singer/songwriter. It was a fit for Rickie, who yearned to contribute to the progessive community of businesses owned by African-Americans in Leimert Park. She was invited by the owners of Hot N Cool to do a Sunday Morning Devotional on their 1st year Anniversary which fell on Easter Sunday 2019. When members of her newly formed Vintage Choir Club were offered the opportunity to sing together again with Rickie, they answered the call; word got out of where fans of Rickie’s music could find her. Hot N Cool has now become the place to be on Sunday Morning.
